G Herbo Didn’t Know Who J Dilla And Madlib Are, Social Media Was Not Happy

Chicago rapper G Herbo might need to retake an early fundamentals of Hip-Hop class because not knowing the contributions of J Dilla or Madlib is not just embarrassing, it’s borderline criminal.
During an appearance on The Adam Friedland Show, Herb Swervo played a version of “Quicktime with Slime” in which the host gives you two important Hip-Hop figures and the guests has to choose between them.
“Lets do the classic: 2Pac or Biggie?” Friedland said.
“2Pac,” G Herbo replied. “I’m gonna go with 2Pac.”
“Really?” Friedland asked.
“OK. Atlanta: Gucci Mane or Jeezy?”
“I’m going Wop, though. I grew up with Gucci… My whole upbringing was Gucci,” G Herbo explained. “My homie, GFazo, his favorite rapper was Gucci Mane. That’s how I really got up on Gucci.”
Everything was moving along smoothly until Friedland asked G Herbo to pick between J Dilla and Madlib and then the wheels fell off.
“Or is that a white question?” the host asked.
“Um, that was a white question,” the rapper joked. “I don’t… Hey, don’t kill me nobody. Who are they?”
Truthfully, G Herbo was brave to admit that he didn’t know who the two hip hop gods were. Friedland and his behind-the-scenes crew were noticeably amused.
“Well, let me tell you about Hip-Hop culture…” Friedland joked. “No, they’re like two incredible —
“What do they do, though?” G Herbo asked.
“Those are the best producers ever,” Friedland explained.
G Herbo asked to hear the names again.
“You know Quasimoto? You know Madvillainy?” Friedland asked hoping that calling out Madlib’s alter ego might jar his memory.
Calm down guardians of Hip-Hop. While G Herbo didn’t know Madlib, “Of course” he’s heard of Quasimoto.
“I’m gonna go with Madlib then,” he said.
“It’s the right answer. Dilla died, and it’s very sad, but it’s the right answer,” Friedland continued. “Just ’cause you’re dead doesn’t mean you win… I’m sorry that I said that.”
It didn’t take long for social media to learn of G Herbo’s Hip-Hop faux pas.
“Not knowing Madlib is one thing, but Dilla?? Boo this man,” one user wrote.
“J Dilla deserves respect,” another said.
What should’ve been more jarring is in the same interview G Herbo didn’t know what the U.S. Civil War was or why it was fought.
